Hamilton and Ricciardo up for Laureus Sports Awards

The two-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo also goes there for accolades.

The Mercedes’s driver Lewis Hamilton was a victory. With 11 wins last season, he undoubtedly secured his second champion. Now he has been nominated for Laureus’ main prize alongwith Moto GP’s Marc Marquez, who has won back-to-back world championships in his first two seasons in the sport. Apart from these two shining stars, tennis star Novak Djokovic, Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, golf's Rory McIlroy and French athlete Renaud Lavillenie are also nominated.

Last F1 season is a Mercedes show, with the team only missing three wins of 19 wins throughout the year. Thus, the team has also been nominated in the World Team of the Year award after its dominant season. And now, the team’s award rivals are Europe's golfing Ryder Cup team, the Germany side which won the football World Cup, Real Madrid, NBA's San Antonio Spurs and the Swiss Davis Cup tennis team.

Daniel Ricciardo, the only non-Mercedes driver who has won races last F1 season, has been recognized in the Breakthrough of the Year category. And in 2009, McLaren’s Jenson Button won the Breakthrough of the Year award for becoming the F1 world champion of that year.

Ricciardo’s 2014 teammate in Red Bull Vettel claimed Laureus' top prize last year. Before that, only Michael Schumacher (2002 and 2004) had been awarded the top prize from the world of F1.
